Week 2:
This week I tried a morning "wake up" class. The point of it was to energize and prepare your body and mind to take on the day. I felt this class was easier than the last one I did because, for one it was shorter, and two it really focused on slow big breathing and long flowing stretches, which she called sun salutations. This class to me seemed to involve a lot of meditation. She encouraged us to keep our eyes closed if we could and really just breathe and stretch.
My take away from this class was that it was really enjoyable. I plan on doing a routine similar to this on my own every morning. I truly felt energized after. I usually do a mix of static stretching and foam rolling in the morning because it helps my mobility for weight lifting, but this loosened me up and stretched me way better than that. I still plan to use a foam roaller and stretch from time to time, but i think my morning routine is going to switch to a primarilly yoga based one.

Week 6

I tried another wake up class this week. I went in with no coffee or caffeine of any sort in order to see if it would truly wake me up. We started with some breathing and meditation to “wake up our mind”. We were supposed to visualize our day. What we were going to do, what we have to get done, stuff like that. We then moved into our sun salutations, which was a great way to work out all the stiffness and achiness from our nights sleep. I for one always wake up with a stiff back cause I sleep on my stomach and this was an excellent way to quickly loosen that up. After the sun salutations we moved on to other poses that apparently help your body get ready for the day. This class really does energize you and prepare you for the day, but I don’t think I can do without my coffee. If I incorporate both I might have the best wake up routine ever! I’m not really sure why type of yoga this was or what it was based after because it doesn’t seem to have a particular style like ...

Final Blog

Final Blog   This semester was my first time doing yoga. I tried to do as many types of yoga as possible to see what I like and dislike. I wanted to get into yoga because I thought it would help me stretch and loosen up my body to become a better weight lifter. I also love trying new ways to exercise because its one of my best coping mechanisms when I am stressed. As I progressed with the semester I unfortunately became less and less enthused about the idea of doing yoga. I didn’t like people wanting to talk to me before and after my classes. I wanted to just go in get my workout done, and relax from all the stresses of the day like I do with weightlifting. I tried to really give it a shot but I think I already had my yoga; it was weight lifting.

Week 11

I did an early morning wake up class and just like the last few I did I really enjoyed them. We did an Ashtanga style vinyasa class. It was nothing too intense, just a bunch of sun salutation to wake up the mind and body. I like this because it isn’t taxing on the central nervous system like other forms of exercise can be. It’s perfect to start the day because it gets your muscles lose and moving, which is always good before a day of work or sitting at a desk at school. I’ve noticed from doing yoga that my lower back has loosened up a lot and I think it’s from these morning sun salutations I’ve been doing throughout the semester. Another thing I’ve noticed from doing morning yoga is that I drink more water throughout my day. Because of the early morning class I become thirsty earlier on in the day and it makes me end up taking in more water than usual which is always a good thing.
